This symposium responds to a well-known observed tendency for second language development to plateau as students progress through immersion programs, and aims to provide an opportunity for teachers and researchers alike to consider ways of ensuring continued language growth in immersion settings. The symposium includes recent immersion studies (conducted in Spanish and Japanese immersion programs in the US, as well as French immersion in Canada) that explore various factors that contribute to target language development in immersion settings.
