Zitlali Morales, University of Illinois at Chicago Rebecca Starr, Carnegie Mellon University This research symposium highlights current research on emerging issues in two-way immersion programs. The research took place in elementary and secondary settings and includes teacher and student perspectives. Specifically, the presenters will present an overview of current research in the areas of instructional practices, bilingual development, and identity construction, and will consider implications for future research, policy, and practice.

The purpose of this symposium is to "unpack" this third way by highlighting perspectives from scholars representing international and different program contexts (one-way, two-way, and indigenous immersion). Invited Symposium Saturday, 10:00 am State I	Immersion at the Tertiary Level: Models, Challenges and Prospects Alysse Weinberg, University of Ottawa Liss Kerstin Sylven, University of Gothenburg William H. (Pila) Wilson, University of Hawai'i at Hilo Wen Xiong, University of Rhode Island While immersion teaching is not a well established practice at the university level, nevertheless, a few models have emerged in Canada, the United States, and Europe. This symposium will examine four different models with four different languages: The French Immersion Studies program at the University of Ottawa in Canada; the University of Rhode Island's Chinese Language Flagship Partner Program; the Hawaiian language program of the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, and an overview of practices and research of "English as the medium of instruction" in higher education in Sweden and other European countries.
