Amanda Romjue
Technology-Enhanced Language Education Director

Amanda Romjue is the Technology-Enhanced Language Education Director for the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA). She earned her PhD in second language acquisition and instructional technology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2016. She also has an EdS in Higher Education, an MA in Spanish, and a BA in Spanish from Appalachian State University. In her role at CARLA, she is responsible for creating resources to support classroom use of technology, developing and facilitating professional development on technology in language education, and managing and facilitating technology projects. 

Dr. Romjue’s interest in the use of technology to support language learning is situated within frameworks such as the TPACK model (Koehler & Mishra, 2009), which posit that technology should serve the needs of both pedagogy and content. She is an avid consumer of professional development and regularly attends conferences and webinars to stay up-to-date on all the latest on AI, OER, and other such topics related to digital tools and technology-enhanced language education in order to provide timely solutions for faculty, staff, and students. 

Dr. Romjue has experience teaching undergraduate courses in beginning to intermediate Spanish, courses in instructional technology for teachers, and methodology courses for preservice language teachers. She has also supervised practicum and student teaching experiences. She has facilitated many professional development workshops, assisted with conferences, and serves on the boards of the Mid-Atlantic Association for Language Learning Technology (MAALLT) and the International Association for Language Learning Technology (IALLT).
