Underlining in color
One of Anne’s big priorities when she does written assignments is to make sure she doesn’t make noun-adjective gender and number mistakes.
Her strategy consists of four steps:
- She begins by printing a sample of her writing first, and by underlining all the nouns and their agreeing adjectives in a matching color.
- Anne looks through color sets and makes sure her “adjective-noun number and gender agreement[s] are correct.” She doesn’t look for “other mistakes that might be in the composition at [that] point, such as problems with verbs or … sentence structure.”
- If there are mistakes, Anne crosses the incorrect forms out and writes the correct forms above them.
- “Once I’ve gone through all my paper like this, I … correct it on the computer.”
