What types of pragmatic strategies are used for complimenting and responding to compliments?
In this section of the module, we will focus on the language strategies you can use to compliment and respond to compliments appropriately. While working through each of the different strategies, remember that they each work interactively in conversation, not in isolation.
Compliment Strategies
Below is a list of strategies that you will be learning to use in order to compliment appropriately.
Hearer-oriented strategies are more common than speaker-oriented strategies.
¡Qué __________________! is a commonly used structure.
Positive irony, or sarcasm, is another way of extending a compliment (in other words, by saying the opposite of what you mean).
