What's My Level?

This chart is designed as a guide to help you select the instructional modules which best fit your language level.  The level categorizations have been selected based on the complexity of the communicative acts involved and the various vocabulary and language structures needed to perform strategies.  Levels are based on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Guidelines.

Does this mean I will not be able to use the modules that are not at my level?

No.  In fact, you should NOT avoid using the other modules just because they are not indicated to be at your level.  Instead, we suggest using them in different ways, based on your level.  For example, let’s say you are a beginner (novice).  You would best be suited to look at the Introduction to Pragmatics and Compliments modules in detail.  However, you could look at the others at the surface level by paying attention to general tendencies, overall meaning, and learning strategies.  Also, the instructional materials are in English, making it possible to access a large body of information.

Do I need to do the modules in order from less advanced to more advanced?

No.  While we do recommend starting with the Introduction to Pragmatics module, all other units can be completed in any order you wish.  We suggest starting with those that are of more interest to you.

How do I know what my level is?

All levels are based on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Guidelines.  Descriptions of each level can be found on the ACTFL website by clicking here.
