Identifying Important Social Factors and Language Varieties
Invitation Sequences
There is little question that social factors such as distance, power, and context play a large role in invitation sequences. However, the exact nature of the effect that each of these has is still yet to be determined empirically.
One factor that has been examined empirically is the role of gender in Peruvian Spanish. (García, 1992)
If you had to guess, how would you say that gender affects invitation sequences (extending and refusing invitations)? Do males and females invite and respond differently to invitations in Spanish? Justify your answer with details.
