Considerations for Pragmatic Performance

This module is designed as a resource module for you as you expand your knowledge and learn more about Spanish pragmatics.

What is included in this module?

In this module, you will find important additional information to help you improve your pragmatic skills. While there are many examples specific to Spanish, the information in this module can easily be applied to other languages.

The specific topics included are:

    • Politeness
    • Conversational Practices
    • "Written" Communicative Acts
    • Additional Resources for Learning about Pragmatics

How should you use this module?

This module is different from the other units found on this website in that it is a resource guide to be used, when needed, to supplement other areas of pragmatic learning. In each section, you will find a summary of interesting information about each topic. You should be cautious not to consider this a comprehensive summary of each of the topics. Rather, it is a starting point for you as a language learner to continue your own investigations and observations. By becoming more aware of these issues, you will be better equipped to handle a wide variety of contexts.

You can use the links on the left-hand side of this page to select the topic(s) you find most relevant to the pragmatic features of language you are interested in. At the end of each page, you will see a link to the resources used to create the module. These can serve as a starting point for more in-depth research.
