Before you watch:
Have you ever used literary texts in the classroom? What kinds of texts were they? What kinds of tasks did your students perform in working with the literary texts?

In this video, Bill argues that “texts are not sacred.” What does he mean by this? Do you agree or disagree?
Bill suggests that modern literature (20th- and 21st-century texts) may offer more accessible texts for learners than the classics. What kinds of writers in the language you teach might be easiest for students to understand and work with?
