STARTALK: Transitioning to
Teaching Language Online (TTLO)

Please Note: This program received STARTALK funding for six consecutive years (2013–2018).

Description: This STARTALK program was for K-16 teachers of critical languages who wanted to teach their language online. Offered completely online, this 3-5 week, intensive program gave teacher participants the experience of being an online learner. Course content focused on many different facets of a successful online language program, such as creating community, time management strategies for teachers and students, choosing appropriate technology tools for communicative-based activities, and developing a variety of online activity types. In addition to exploring these aspects of teaching online, participants experienced these concepts in action by participating in model online language activities. By the end of the program, participants had a portfolio of activities ready to be incorporated in an online program.

Thank you for your interest in our program!
Interested teachers may wish to register for the CARLA TTLO Summer Institute which continues the TTLO program.
